Dr. M. Mohan Babu, star hero, producer and proprietor of Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures (SLPP), on Friday, officially received the coveted national honour "Padma Shri" from His Excellency President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at a colorful function held at the historic Ashoka Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi . The Government of India had announced the Padma Award to Dr. Mohan Babu in recognition of his yeomen services to the field of Art.

Dr. Mohan Babu made his debut as an actor with "Swargam Narakam" in 1975 and till now enacted versatile characters in an enigmatic 508 movies, besides producing 48 movies in a span of two and half a decade on his home banner SLPP, after it was launched by his screen mentor and the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr. N.T. Rama Rao in 1982.

His fans affectionately knighted him with the titles "Dialogue King", "Collection King", "Nataprapoorna" (Complete Artiste), "Vidyalaya Brahma", which reflects his commitment to his profession as an artiste and his reciprocation of love towards the people of Andhra Pradesh.


He also served as MP (Rajya Sabha) during 1995-2001. Apart from registering the voice of the people at the august floor of Parliament, he established Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust (SVET) in 1992, which now is one of the leading chain of professional colleges in India .
Dr. Mohan Babu has made it mandatory to offer 25% free education to the poorest of the poor, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, at all levels of education in his institutions.
